Blocked fallopian tubes are an important cause of infertility. Tubes are required for sperm and an egg to meet for fertilisation. A blocked tube can prevent them from fertilising. If only one fallopian tube is blocked, the blockage doesn't affect fertility because an egg can still travel through the unaffected fallopian tube. Around 30% of the infertile women worldwide have associated blocked fallopian tubes. It is difficult to treat blocked fallopian tubes but fertility can be achieved by IVF treatment in these cases.
