Exercises in Pregnancy
Pregnancy and childbirth are a unique period in a woman’s life. Since it constitutes a long period some women may wish to continue exercise for health/fitness, recreation, or sport. Mild exercises in pregnancy or childbirth are included in prenatal education classes. Walking has been encouraged as the best exercise for pregnant women. The safety of strenuous exercises during pregnancy is not yet evaluated. These exercises may cause hyperthermia, fetal distress, miscarriage, and maternal injury. However, these risks are low and can be tried in pregnancy. Such exercises are useful for weight control, physical fitness, active recreation, and positive mental health benefits.
